A Rhode Island man suspected in a string of car break-ins in the Fuller Street neighborhood was arrested last Thursday following a search of the area by Canton police.
A resident of Mountain Ave. had initially called police at around 3 p.m. to report that his motor vehicle had been broken into and he had spotted the suspect fleeing towards the industrial park at 480 Neponset Street. Police Lt. Patty Sherrill said a short time later, a resident of Fuller Street called to say he had just confronted a male party who was in his vehicle rummaging around in the front seat. Officers began canvasing the area and located a man matching the description of the suspect coming out of the bathroom of the Dunkin Donuts on Neponset Street.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Richard, 33, of Coventry, RI, was placed under arrest and charged with multiple counts of breaking and entering into a vehicle, larceny under $1,200 and receiving stolen property, and single counts of attempting to commit a crime and malicious destruction of property. Sherrill said more victims in and around Fuller Street reported that their cars had been broken into and the suspect was found in possession of several items that had been reported stolen.
Additional charges may follow pending a further investigation. In addition to the burglary charges, Richard had an outstanding warrant from Rhode Island police for receiving a stolen motor vehicle and an additional warrant out of Massachusetts.
Dorchester man charged with unarmed robbery
A Dorchester man will be summoned to court to face charges of unarmed robbery in connection with an incident that occurred last Friday evening, January 1, at a residence on Windsor Woods Way. Police Lt. Patty Sherrill said one of the persons in the residence at the time knew the suspect — identified as 31-year-old Frank Brown — and had allowed him into the apartment. Brown then allegedly assaulted two women in the apartment and also took money from one of the women. Sherrill said Brown will be charged for the unarmed robbery but is not being charged with the assaults at this time.
Update on first responder vaccinations
Fire Chief and Emergency Services Coordinator Charles Doody provided an update on Monday regarding the town’s plans to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to first responders. Doody said distribution will be done through the Norfolk County-8 Local Public Health Coalition, which includes Canton. Fellow NC-8 member Norwood is scheduled to receive 800 doses of the Moderna vaccine on or around January 11, and from there they will be distributed to the participating communities’ boards of health. Doody said the vaccines will be administered by the town’s public health nurses at CFD headquarters beginning on or around January 15. Vaccination is voluntary, and Police Chief Ken Berkowitz and Doody have a list of first responders who have requested to participate …
